Sophie Vann Guillon

epicurean visionary

For over twenty years, Sophie Vann Guillon has been breathing creative energy into Valmont, constantly pushing back the boundaries of cosmetic innovation. Even as a child, as a prelude to her adopted Switzerland where tradition and expertise in cellular cosmetics are one and the same, Sophie was already secretly breaking down her aunts' beauty products, fascinated by their secrets. An innate curiosity that soon laid the foundations for a career dedicated to the science of beauty.

Didier Guillon

the creative alchemist

For over thirty years, Didier Guillon has infused Valmont with boundless creativity, constantly reinventing the boundaries between art and cosmetics. Great-great grandson of Charles Sedelmeyer, a renowned art dealer, and stepfather of Stanislas Lami, a distinguished sculptor, Didier Guillon inherited a family passion for art that shines through in each of his creations. From a young age, surrounded by the beauty of artworks and the stories of his ancestors, he forged a unique artistic sensibility.

the precursor

Portrait of a man with a serious expression, sporting a thick beard and mustache. He is wearing a dark suit with a white collared shirt and dark bow tie, set against a dark, plain background.

Before all,
it was him

Charles Sedelmeyer, an Austrian-born art dealer naturalized French, is The Precursor, the origin of our story, the first identity of Fondation Valmont. Born in 1837 in Vienna, he brings to life an incredible collection – a true museum.

A knowledgeable and competent amateur, he is above all a defender of art; buying and encouraging become the two keywords of his activity.

The portrait of Charles Sedelmeyer, signed by Gabriel Ferrier, dates back to the early 20th century. The big names of European avant-gardes are already known in France: the Cubists, the Futurists, Giorgio de Chirico, Marc Chagall…

But he, Charles Sedelmeyer, sees them passing from afar, from his residence at Château d’Ambleville. The artistic fervour that explodes in Paris, the capital of art at the time, remains decentralized compared to his predominantly classical interest. To him, the credit is given for originating the great American collections.

This enormous cultural baggage is the starting point for the activities of Fondation Valmont, which, on the other hand, moves away from academic rigor to embrace the unknown, exploration, and the contemporary.

The importance of this emblematic figure – merchant, connoisseur, and defender of art – fits perfectly into the story that Fondation Valmont wants to tell, between a tribute that looks to the past and the desire to leave the beaten paths of art.

A story that finds its roots by following a family itinerary which, from Sedelmeyer, passing through Stanislas Lami – author among others of the Dictionnaire des sculptures de l’École française, leads to Didier and Maxence Guillon and, finally, to Palazzo Bonvicini.

A distinguished older man with a white beard holds a magnifying glass, examining papers or a book. He wears a dark coat, and the background is dimly lit. The expression on his face is focused and thoughtful.

2015 - to present

Fondation Valmont

Since its foundation in 2015, Fondation Valmont, nestled in the intimate Palazzo Bonvicini in Venice, cradle of the Storie Veneziane perfumes, has established itself as a disruptive force in contemporary art. Didier Guillon, its founder, envisioned this space as a sanctuary for art in all its forms. A cocoon where artists can express themselves freely, where visitors are invited to immerse themselves in a world of emotions and beauty. Its mission? To promote contemporary art, foster intercultural dialogues, and challenge artistic conventions. This vision is now perpetuated by Maxence Guillon, who has been ensuring the continuity of this family mission alongside his father since 2022. But Fondation Valmont does not merely exhibit artworks; it creates unique artistic moments. Through travelling exhibitions like the one’s exposing Mr. Guillon’s iconic IVO and shows in Venice such as Ego, it defies traditional artistic circuits. More than 300 artworks have been presented, and more than thirty artists have collaborated with Fondation Valmont, bringing diversity and richness to the contemporary art scene. Journeys like these, invite the individual to discover new perspectives and allow themselves to be moved.

If Fondation Valmont were a painting, it would probably be a canvas in perpetual evolution, capturing the essence of art and beauty in a play of perspectives oriented towards the future. It would invite you to rethink your relationship with art and nature, to appreciate each moment, and to find well-being in simplicity and authenticity. From this living fresco, you will discover a haven where every detail matters, a call to feel at home. A world nourished by dreams and desires, offering a glimpse of… an enchanting future.

The exhibition. Ivo celebrates freedom, art meets beauty

For this contemporary art exhibition Ivo in Tanzania, Valmont Korea and Fondation Valmont have imagined a complete, clever, and creative journey. An immersion in the colors of Tanzania and the House motto “When Art meets Beauty”.

Divided into several zones, customers and art lovers begin their journey with Ivo in an area displaying Valmont’s brand and its three iconic lines: Valmont, Storie Veneziane, l’Elixir des Glaciers.

Then, like an invitation to discover its colorful world of Tanzanian fabrics, Ivo appears. Colorful silk-screened Ivo or associated cardboard carved Ivo. Silk-screen prints and puzzles sometimes giant, for an enchantment in the kitenges’ colors dressing the women and traditions of Tanzania.

The marvelous immersion continues in a projection room, where for the first time and in exclusivity, Hope images are unveiled. The movie retraces the moving journey in Uganda of a 16-year-old girl, Valentine Guillon, accompanied by a cameraman, Cyril Ducottet, to meet Ivo in his natural world.

The ultimate exhibition area is an outstretched hand. To visitors, so they may perpetuate Ivo’s quest for freedom, through a charity or by acquiring one of the shop’s souvenirs. To children, so they in turn, can adorn Ivo with their joyful innocence and inventiveness, in a dedicated space around colouring tables.
